Regional - Tejo
Geographic area
The Tejo region is located in the south central part of Portugal just northeast of Lisbon. The Tejo region consists mainly of flat plains with a sub-mediterranean climate due to the close proximity of the Tagus River. The soils are mostly sandy. Average temperature is 15º to 16ºC and rainfall is about 700 to 1000 mm/year.

Vinification
The most common native white grape varieties found in the Tejo region are Arinto and Fernão Pires. Castelão is the principal red grape and is used along with Trincadeira, among others.
